GHORBA 10th Year Anniversary Weekend at Double Lake Oct 10-11

All members, friends and corporate supporters of GHORBA are welcome!

Can you believe it? GHORBA is 10 years old this fall. We sure have come a long way from our formation in 1999 out of the joining of Houston Area Mountain Bike Riders (HAMBRA) and the Memorial Park riders groups and the epic fight to save access to the trails in Memorial Park.

The work to maintain and increase access continues: we’ve come a long way since we started and we probably have some of our most exciting opportunities on the horizon. We’re inviting our previous leaders – Chris Case is coming down – and our local bike shops and of course all of our members.

Saturday some of us are going to do the “Sam Houston Long March” – riding from Double Lake to Huntsville and back through the Sam Houston National Forest and Sunday we’ll take interested folks on a tour of where the new trails are laid out for the DL expansion. Lots more fun to be had ….

Saturday night is party night – some dinner and a coupla brews, and mountain bike movies of course.

Sunday, we’re going to take people out for a tour of where the new trails are going to be built to the east and SE of DL. There’ll be a few other activities, but the main thing is do some riding and have a few laughs over a couple of beers and celebrate what went before and what we have in the future – which is quite a lot.

Celebration starts Saturday at 6pm; rides start Friday Night!

  • Free dinner and adult malted beverages (Saturday) for all current members.
  • Free camping in group campsite for current members.
  • Limited Edition T-shirts Available for $10.00 (only 100 printed!)

Note: Except for Saturday night, meals and beverages are on your own. Park day/use, non-group camping fees are also on your own.

  4. I just posted a poll about the ride... so we can organize one-way rides for those who think riding both ways is too much.

That way someone can drop their car off at HSP, ride back to DL, and have some other rider who’s doing a one-way from DL to HSP drive their car back to DL….
