GHORBA made great gains in 2003.

 Year in Review

bullet

We started the year with a visit from IMBA to guide us in trail building and advocacy.

bullet

At the end of that visit we hosted our first Fat Tire Festival.  The event was put together with very little time but turned out great.

bullet

Then we held our very first Sprockids Clinic at Sunnyside Recreation Center.  This event made some great inroads with Houston Parks and Recreation.

bullet

After this we had a group of twelve members head to Arkansas for a Easter ride on the Womble.  This will become an annual deal so get in line for next year.

bullet

Next we had another Kids Clinic in Huntsville State Park.  About 50 inner-city kids got turned on to riding in the woods.  GHORBA  was able to purchase 15 brand new bikes for this program and also had some others donated  to allow the club to perform these clinics.

bullet

GHORBA also joined forces with Hector Garza and the Byke Project where several members were able to go to neighborhoods and help fix bikes for inner city kids.  Being able to get a kid on a bike is one of the most satisfying things we can do.

bullet

GHORBA supported a Bay Area group that total refurbished the trails at Jack Brooks Park.  This trail system has improved 1000% in one year.  A skills clinic was held here this year along with the First Annual Renegade Race.

bullet

Huntsville State Park has a couple new bridges and some trail re-routes thanks to GHORBA and NWCC members.

bullet

A new trail system is in progress at Stephen F. Austin State Park in Sealy Texas.

bullet

GHORBA also hosted their annual Christmas Lights ride and raised $500.00 to donate to HPD's Blue Santa Program.

bullet

GHORBA also stepped up to the plate and hosted it's first TMBRA mountain bike race, The Houston Big Ring Challenge at Double Lake Recreation Area.  The successful event increased the clubs bank account thanks to the support of local bike shops and sponsors.

bullet

Group rides were very popular and well attended  at all of our local trails, Huntsville, the Anthills, Memorial, Double Lake and Jack Brooks Park.

Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make 2003 a great year for mountain biking in Houston Enough of last year, lets get on with 2004 and continue to grow into one of the best clubs in America.
