Sprockids Invade Huntsville State Park
In a combined effort of Huntsville State Park, Community Outreach
Partnership, and GHORBA, a very exciting Sprockids Clinic was held on July
19th for thirty-five deserving Huntsville area youth. The project
was cooked up by Park Ranger Amy Morowski during a talk with Program
Directors at the GHORBA group ride in May. Amy arranged contact with
Christopher McCall from the Community Outreach Partnership, who provide
the children and the food for the event. Huntsville State Park
donated
use of the Group Picnic Shelter for the event and also allowed the
use of a TV-VCR for the classroom portion as well as the use of the
trails. The normal clinic activities were on schedule as Dan Raine,
Cynthia Stewart and Jamie Hendrixson led the children into the classroom
sessions. In the meantime Mike Frye, Mike Winkler, Rob Brown and Csaba
Kormendy got the
bikes ready while Chris Case and Keith Porter and June Frye got the water
jugs on the course. The kids were split into two groups, one started
in the classroom and the other spent some time in the interpretive center
with the turtles and the baby alligators. As soon as the classroom was
finished the first group hit the trails and the second group hit the
classroom.
After
returning from the three mile loop of single-track riding, the first group
went to the interpretive center and the second group hit the trail.
Afterward, the entire group enjoyed Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Sausage and cold
drinks provided by the Community Outreach Partnership. All of the
volunteers enjoyed a beautiful day of riding and teaching. A huge
Thanks go out to all involved.
