2009 GHORBA Big Ring Challenge - Explanation of Golden Bike Event
The GHORBA Big Ring Challenge is home to the second event in the GT Golden Race Series. At this race, the fastest amateur racer will go home with the GT Golden Bike, a $250 Sugoi gift certificate – and cycling immortality.
The Winner will be the fastest amateur (non-pro, 18 years or older, not working for a bike company) to complete the 33.2 mile course. NOTE: If you’re racing the 24.9 mile course, fear not! We’ll average out your lap times and add it to your overall time to calculate your overall “score” as a 33.2 mile finisher. If you hope to sandbag in Cat 3, don’t. Only Cat 1 and 2 racers are eligible.
Here’s the catch: To keep the Golden Bike, the winner has to defend it at the next race in the Golden Race Series – the Spring Thaw in Ashland, OR on May 16th. GT will cover the race fee and fly the winner and a friend to the race, where he will have a dedicated mechanic and a personal cheering squad. If the same person wins again, the cycle continues. Lose – and he surrenders the GT Golden Bike and all its glory to the new victor.
But hey, GT is not totally heartless. They’ll present you with a commemorative GT Golden Bike at the end of the season. So, good luck winning the GT Golden Bike!
