Save Our Forest (Anthills) Update - Meeting February 8 and what you can do

We are reaching a critical time period in our attempts to convince HCFCD and the City that there exists a sound alternative to gutting and clear-cutting the south of Buffalo Bayou from Hwy 6 to Beltway 8 in an effort deal with flooding issues in Houston.

In spite of investing hundreds of hours of sweat equity in trying to make the Anthills better for all users and obtain grant money to help us improve the trails, GHORBA has been largely ignored by Charting Buffalo. We have not been considered a stakeholder nor were we invited to participate in the steering committee.

In fact, no true user group is represented in the Charting Buffalo process. Yet, like the homeowners, those of us who utilize the Anthills (whether biker, hiker, walker, photographer, birder, etc.) truly appreciate and understand the value of this natural area in west Houston.

Now those who may not fully appreciate this natural urban oasis, including representatives of other areas of the bayou, champion this shortsighted “solution” while casting those who would dare voice an alternative as tree huggers, incapable of understanding the issues and what is important.

Their misconceptions need to change, which can only occur if you voice your opinion. Here are some thoughts / points…
